Leaping Through the Lens
Oil -2023
Leaping Through the Lens is an abstracted oil painting that started as an idea of wanting to paint an image of a vintage Kiev camera that I own. Then I began to take it a step further, thinking about painting only a portion of the camera at a zoomed-in view. With that came the thought of something breaking its way out of the lens. From there, I thought to paint the texture of the camera as pebbles and stones, and have the frogs jumping between the water (the lens) and the camera’s surface (the pebbles). Wouldn’t it be interesting if there was actually something living inside of our cameras, just trying to exist outside of the lens?
